Recently, I was pleased to read an entire two page spread in the Jewish week about how the Israeli Ministry of Tourism expects a major increase in tourism this year following a major increase last year. The ministry said many people will be coming to Israel for it’s 60th birthday celebration and all Jerusalem hotels are entirely booked for that celebration. The article went on to document the construction of more hotels in Jerusalem and the anticipation that tourism to Israel would double by 2012. What could be better for the Israeli economy!
Yet, America’s own economic problems and the tenuous, (at least perceived) volatile state of the State of Israel already has new estimates predicting less travel to the State of Israel than previously anticipated. Americans account for some 25% of tourism to Israel even though the direct flight last somewhere between 10.5 and 12 hours non-stop. For full information you can check out the article on ynet:
